The Allotment - 10th November 2002

So far more clearance has been done. Middle row beds are now dug over and de-rooted, as well as front of the rear bed, now starting on the front bed. All have to be sieved for destoning and any other missed roots!

Every week is another 3 or 4 bags of roots!

The Pergola for climbing beans has been removed and chopped up for Chiminea fuel (that and other timber gives us about 7 sacks of wood).

Unfortunately some friendly children managed to throw stones from an adjacent park and break some of the panes on the Aluminium cold frame. These panes have now been replaced with plastic, sealed, and polystyrene insulation blocks cut up for winter protection. Where as the older wooden cold frame has been dismantled and is in the process of being refurbished/renewed/rebuilt, as quite a bit of it was completely rotten and dangerous. This will be resited later once the new cold frame has been completed. in resiteing an extra row of bricks will be used to lift the wooden parts above the soil level and reduce rot problems.

The front of the plot -

Now being dug over and old roots removed, including parsnip sized dandelion roots.

Still a long way to go over several more weekends.

Closer view of how much done!

Each forkful is several sets of weed roots.
