The Allotment - 2nd March 2003

Another weekend but easier progress...

So another weekend and the main tasks are more actually to do with plants...!

Gill has been planting Parsnips, thinning Radishes and Lettuces. Some digging over over past compost and sand not yet dug in. Thankfully the weather has been good to enable a fair bit of time to be spent on the allotment in a leisurely manner.

I gave some assistance with stone moving, levelling, weeding and destoning, along with other such chores of levelling stone paths, water butt testing, etc..

In the background of some of the shots other allotment keepers can be seen taking advantage of the weather.

Signs of first crops in our main cold frame, radishes and lettuces doing well. So well some of the thinnings have been planted out in the raised bed in front of the main coldframe.

These are expected to start being cropped in two to three weeks.

Closer view of the rear of the top section with the stone path between the Loganberries and the cold frames, topped up with stones and levelled.

The up turned black bucket has a forced Rhubarb growing quite nicely, to the extent that it may well lift the bucket by next week!

View of the finished beds from last weekend, with stone filled polypipes to hold down black landscape fabric, as it was rather windy Thursday.

At this point in the day Gill was starting the digging in on the middle left raised bed, which was finished later.

General view from Bottom left of the plot, showing also how sunny a day it was. The left side beds (foreground) have now been dug over and levelled. The top raised bed of this section (left foreground) now has a line of Parsnip seeds planted as well.
