| I have planted 5 minaret fruit trees although the picture
mostly shows the support stakes. 2 apples (Charles Ross and Scruptious)2
pears (Doyenne du Comice and Beth) and a plum (Opal) also a dessert gooseberry
called rokula. The bed already contained a blackcurrant and a redcurrant
and some mara de bois strawberries. The instructions said to plant when
the soil was not too wet, which I did, but it has rained almost continuously
ever since. I shall just have to hope that they survive this |
 |
| Last year we replaced the rotten old windows which topped the cold frame
with polycarbonate sheet. This proved to be too brittle, so Paul has remade
the frames with a box construction roofing material which we hope will
be more durable |
|
| Wires to train the raspberries have been installed and 20 canes 5 each
of Glen Moy, Glen Ample, Malling Adminral and Autumn Bliss have been planted.
a side view of the new shed is visible. It should blend into the background
once the trees come into leaf |
 |
| Front view of the new plastic shed which was assembled with the invaluable
assistance of Paul. I decided on plastic partly because it would not require
the installation of a concrete or slab base, and partly beacause looking
round at the other sheds, I realised that they were succumbing to every
wood disease I had ever heard of and some that I hadn't. |
|
| Inside the shed I have put in hangars for tools etc. at the moment it
looks quite tidy but it seems unwise to speculate how long that will last. |
