Are you making an entertainment site, which is actively running games or music or for teenagers?

How many times do you expect users to come back to your website?

Too many things in front of the first page or on every page LOSES CUSTOMERS!, being forced to watch an animation/video or listen to sound track (that may not be compatible with user computers), on every visit, SCARES VISITORS AWAY!.

Don't do things because you can, do them because they are appropriate for the target audience/market/users. Your target audience is -

• NOT the board or who ever asks you to design the web site. Point them to these web sites on this page.
• NOT the developers or sales or marketing departments.
• NOT your friends and colleagues
• NOT for the graphics designers
• NOT ONLY for those with Gigabit connections direct to your server!

If your audience is not teenagers or entertainment skip a lot of the fancy animations and effects. These are like having "The Death March" as a ring tone on your mobile phone, to those around you it is

• Funny the FIRST time
• Boring the SECOND time
• Annoying the THIRD time
• Thereafter everybody else will want to destroy your mobile phone!
